With a fifth overall position Marcel and his team ended another successful Dakar rally. On the Kamaz was no measure this year, and they took the first four positions in the ranking, making team 504 the Best Of The Rest. They gave a good push, especially the first week of the race. With the Iveco had to drive at 100% constantly, where the high performing Kamaz trucks where going at 85%. This was tough competition, but they managed to follow through till the very end.

The field of participants was strong this year. Many Iveco's, Tatra's, Hino and other teams with all experienced drivers and well prepared assistance teams made is a close competition untill the very end. Team de Rooy managed to have all 4 trucks finishing in the top 10 which is a grand result. Marcel and his team are proud of the result, and look back to a tough but exciting race.

A special thanks goes to the sponsors and partners and surely to the mechanics and other assistants who made a great effort to prepare and organize the service during the whole event, and also before and after. Without this professional support, none of this would have been possible.

Please enjoy the final pics of this year, and see you back soon!

Monday 11.01.2022 - After the rest day, early in stage 7 (after 10 km from the start of the special) team 504 had an unfortunate encounter with a tricky sand bump leading the truck to fall on its's side. Despite the efforts of the assistance team that towed the truck back on its wheels, the time loss caused the team to finish in a 16th position. The truck lost front and side windows and the team had to wear their sand goggles to continue. The tire pressure system had a malfunction as well leading to the pilots to manually change the tire pressure before and every dune section. A heavy set back for the guys that still had a shot for the podium. During stage 8 they managed however to climb back from 16 to the 8th position at the finish line, placing them now 6th in the general standings.

With a few serious stages ahead, a lot can happen still, but the top 3 of the ranking is gonna be hard to get with the current 2h:11min time gap the current leader and 1h:30min behind the number 3. With 4 Kamaz trucks in the top 5 the 3 Kamaz leaders will also be heavily defending their positions.

Thumbs up thought for todays achievement and fingers crossed for the last 4 days.

A last long desert stage before the rest day. With a 348 km stage special, Marcel will have plenty of time to push his pilot Janus in the further pursuit of the Kamaz teams.

From a 4th position overall, team 504 is putting an increasing pressure on the Russians that are now leading the rankings with a Kamaz on place 1, 2 and 3. Tomorrow the team can rest and decide on the strategy for the second half of the race.
